Adding more Spanish sizzle

Continuing with the lively sweep of Spanish dance in our area this month, Howard County's own Arte Flamenco performs its eighth annual showcase at Slayton House Sunday, June 28 at 7 p.m. Starting with five students in 1997, Natalia Monteleon's flamenco company in North Laurel has grown to a full-fledged performing troupe of five soloists, three guitarists, and a backup ensemble of a dozen dancers. She insists on live music in classes and concerts. Call 301-617-0694 for details or send an e-mail to natalia@arteflamenco.us.

CURTAIN UP!

Alumni Players conjure 'Spirit'

A troupe of local high school graduates calling itself the You Can Always Come Home Players is staging a summer showcase production of Noel Coward's comedy "Blithe Spirit," hosted by River Hill High School. The 1941 farce finds a novelist who is doing research on mediums accidentally conjuring up the ghost of his first wife.

Performances are June 25-27 at 7:30 p.m. in the River Hill High School auditorium. Tickets are $10, with proceeds going to a new fine arts scholarship fund. For information, call 410-313-7120 and ask for Nancy Duffy or Carla Styczynski. Tickets will also be sold at the door on performance nights, when the box office opens 90 minutes prior to curtain.
