The Crawdaddies will perform their blend of Cajun, zydeco, blues, reggae and rock Wednesday, Aug. 12, 7 p.m., at Centennial Park South (10000 Route 108, in Ellicott City). The group has been touring for twelve years and performed at a variety of major festivals such as the Bethlehem Musikfest, the Gumbo Ya Ya Festival and the W.C. Handy Blues Festival.

Columbia jazz singer Gail Marten performs with the Clem Ehoff Trio Thursday, Aug. 6, 8 p.m., at the lakefront of Lake Kittamaqundi in Columbia's Town Center. The Music Matters Songwriters Showcase sets up shop at the lakefront again Tuesday, Aug. 11, 8 p.m., with performances by Hannah Spiro, Carl Ayers and Michael Finazzio. Showcases are free, but donations to Bread for the City for the Homeless are welcomed.

The Columbia Orchestra is auditioning all string instruments and select woodwinds, brass and percussion players for its 2009-2010 season. Auditions run no more than 15 minutes and require playing major and minor scales plus two prepared pieces of a "contrasting nature."
