AT THE CENTER

The Glenwood Senior Center is proud to announce a great achievement by the center's very first Senior Olympic team, the Vipers.

Team members Johnny Weisenborn (coach), Colin McGraw, Herbert Parover, Robert Sharp, Marty Mundy, John Bagileo, Sonny Melcher, Frank Kitzmiller and Robert Connolly won the gold medal in the 55-59 age category of the men's basketball competition in the Maryland Senior Olympics.

The event was held Sept. 13 at the Marilyn J. Praisner Recreation Center in Burtonsville. Go Vipers!

Want to see more of the center's stars on the fast track? Check out 55-year-old Reiko Crowe, of Woodbine, at the Baltimore Running Festival Oct. 11. She will be running a full marathon for which she is currently training. In her appearance at the 2007 Marine Corps Marathon, she claimed a personal accomplishment of completing the 26-mile race in 4 hours, 50 minutes.

What does Crowe do when she is not running marathons? She runs a 10k once a week at the center's indoor track and during the rest of the week does yoga, swimming and weight lifting.

"I exercise for health and to improve my bone strength and the flexibility in my joints," she said in a recent phone interview.

Any signs of her slowing down? Not any time soon, as she only got started about five years ago. I am already breathless just from listing her weekly routine!

The Glenwood Senior Center is also pleased to announce its first Classic Car Show Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. At the show, aside from the cars, one can expect to see games, a 50/50 raffle, prizes, and food served up by members from the Glenwood Lion's Club.

Dash plaques will be given out to the first 50 cars entered. For entry information, call the Glenwood Senior Center at 410-313-5440; registration cost: $13.
