Mayfield Woods Middle School is presenting a “Passport to Success”, an evening program for 6th grade students and parents. This event is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the school.

The informative and fun evening is open to all Mayfield Woods Middle School sixth graders and their parents or guardians.

“Our school’s activity on Oct. 21 represents a new approach; Once sixth-grade parents and students have had a chance to see what is expected of them, we are now providing a space and time to celebrate their arrival here, to answer questions that have come up, and to provide resources that our parents and students have shown us they need as they begin their travels in secondary education — starting, of course, in middle school” world languages teacher Jennifer Goldszmidt said.

Topics will be presented at interactive stations during this program, such as “How to Advocate for Yourself,” “Getting Organized,” “Teacher Expectations” and “Getting Help Beyond the Sixth-Grade Pod.” Participants will leave with a folder full of helpful hints and ideas for making middle school a success.

Students and their parents or guardians are invited to join teachers and staff at an ice cream social following this hour-long event. For additional information, call Jennifer Goldszmidt at
410-313-5022 or e-mail jgoldszmidt@hcpss.org.
