Pat Green, the head coach of the Howard Lions ice hockey team, is presently seeking incoming freshmen, transfer students and any other experienced players who attend Howard High School and are interested in playing. The team is in particular need of players with goaltending skills.
Students who want to play and meet the qualifications should e-mail coach Green at letsgocapitals@verizon.net or call 410-796-0676. The club will be participating at both the varsity and junior varsity levels.
Green was the assistant coach of the Lions team last year and was previously the coach of the Mt. Hebron Vikings. While coaching the Vikings, he was named Howard County Hockey Coach of the Year by the Washington Post.
The Howard Lions, and all county high-school level ice hockey teams, receive no funding from Howard County Public Schools. Hockey, along with other sports such as swimming, are considered club sports, and not eligible for funding.
Practices will start in late September. We are still seeking players with hockey experience who will be attending Howard High School this year.
