Who Remembers the Colonial China Fire?

By Susan Lavin
Posted: August 27, 2008

Mary White, a life long resident of Elkridge spent a portion of her summer organizing old pictures of Elkridge. She has a collection of photographs of the Colonial China fire, but as of now has been unable to find an accurate date that this fire occurred, although she knows it was during the 1950s.

The Colonial China was located across from what now is the Harley Davidson building. It was a very popular place to buy gifts, and I understand that at least a few Elkridge community members were employed by Colonial China. If you have an answer to this date dilemma, call Mary at 410-796-2459.

Bruce Wong and Jen Marciano, both teachers at Elkridge Elementary School recently got married. The couple met at school, became close friends as well as associates, and in due course their friendship blossomed into love. The couple is now beginning their happily married lives, and plans to settle locally. The children of Elkridge will continue to benefit from their expertise in the classroom. They were married on July 26 in the historic Genesee County Village in Mumford, N.Y.The setting was serene, in a beautiful barn that was transformed just for their wedding. For the Love of Books

By Susan Lavin
Posted: August 19, 2008

Julia Green is ready for kindergarten! She recently came to Elkridge Elementary School for a brief summer assessment, in preparation for the beginning of her educational career.

She showed up with a smile, and it was immediately apparent that she had a passion for learning.

I learned that the Green family, including Mom, Joan, and daughters, Jennifer and Julia, gave themselves a summer challenge. They all love to read, so they decided to make a goal of visiting libraries. Not only did they frequent various library branches around the county, but included libraries from surrounding counties.

Julia exclaimed with joy, “I picked out books to read at home at every library!”

They now have a small stack of library cards for libraries across the state of Maryland.

The Greens stayed cool this summer in the comfort of air-conditioned buildings, while fulfilling their goal and enthusiasm over books.
