Elkridge Landing Middle School Hits Lucky 13!

Thanks to the spirited staff members, energetic students and wonderful Elkridge community spirit, Elkridge Landing Middle School again won the school challenge award at the Airport Run/Walk!

This marked the school’s 13th championship at this fitness event, which benefits the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Down Syndrome Clinic and local Down syndrome parent support groups. They registered more than 350 participants this year!

“The rain held off and the muggy weather did not dampen the spirits of our participants. It’s always so much fun to see all the family participation and see some of our former students who are still involved. Everyone enjoyed lots of fun and fitness and also contributed to a very worthy community service event,” said Carol Jones, a physical education teacher and Elkridge Landing Midde School.

Summer’s End Jam a Success!

The Elkridge community had another wonderful Sunday afternoon at the third annual Summer’s End Jam.

“We gave out a mountain of popcorn and more than 800 hot dogs and 800 bottles of water. Kids played in a 63-foot inflatable dragon and a moon bounce,” The Rev. John Mackall, from Crosslife Church, said. “All the while, everyone was listing to live music from Lost and Found (CrossLife’s Praise Team), ORB, Heavy Weather, and Bill Babcock. That was not all; the Dunk Tank was busy again earning big money for the Elkridge Food Pantry!”

Here is a list of the Dunk Tank participants and the amounts they raised: Mr. “B” Conrad Brookhart $94.00; Rev. Mackall, $52.75; Principal Tom Saunders, $48; Coach Strunk, $37; Dunk A Punk: Punk One – Kyle Mackall $48.50; Punk Two – Stephen Eastman $34; Punk Three – Austin Lintz $14.

Everyone who attended and assisted with this year’s Summer’s End Jam was a winner, although the biggest winner was the Elkridge Food Pantry! They received a truckload of food and more than $2,841 in donations.

EYO Basketball Registration is Open

The Elkridge Youth Organization is now registering girls and boys ages 5-17 for recreational league basketball. The EYO offers leagues that focus on skills, developement, sportsmanship and of course, fun!

For those seeking to play at a higher level, travel opportunities are also available.

Troubling Times and Crimes in Elkridge

I just received emails from concerned neighbors about thefts and break-ins in Elkridge. They involve robberies from locked and unlocked vehicles, attempted home break-ins in broad daylight and cars burned from a devices being jammed into tail pipes.

We really need to keep our eyes open, take every precaution possible and look out for one another in these troubling times. The streets and areas that were reported: Avalon Drive, Northern Court, Sandy Ridge, Montgomery Road, Ducketts Lane, the Gardenview neighborhood, Lawyers Hill Road, Rockburn Run and the community of Lynnwood.
