Chuck Fales and Connie Spindler Yingling, along with a committee from the Howard High Class of 1978 are pulling together a class reunion.

The Howard High Class of 1978 is holding its 30th reunion Jan. 10, 2009, at K&B Billiards on Washington Boulevard, in Elkridge.

Spread the word quickly, and maybe a few “lost” classmates can be located and invited to the reunion, too.

People from other class Howard High classes are also welcome to attend. Cost is $15 in advance; $20 at the door and includes light fare and drinks.

For more information call Connie at 410-203-9309 or e-mail connieyingling@hotmail.com

Elkridge Mom’s Club gives Staff Treats

By Susan Lavin
Posted: December 22, 2008

There is a small group of Elkridge women who call themselves the Mom’s Club. They all have children attending Elkridge Elementary School, and get together on a regular basis to say a blessing and pray for the teachers and staff of the school.

In the beginning of the school year they hosted a staff breakfast, and now for the holidays they displayed a brightly lit Christmas tree filled with candy treasures for the staff to enjoy.

The staff says “Thanks!” to these members of the Mom’s Club: Cindy Barr, Gail Dadourian, Kathy Oliver, Lavina Rowell, Katie Judge and Melissa Yue. The sweet treats remind the staff of what a great community they all have the pleasure to work with.

Residents can Track Snow Plows in Howard County

By Susan Lavin
Posted: December 15, 2008

Since we’re getting into the time of year where snow can be an issue, you may be interested in this news from Howard County Executive Kenneth Ulman.

I received a press release that states:

As winter approaches, Howard County Executive Ken Ulman wants to remind residents that, during a snowstorm, they can check the progress of the County’s snow removal vehicles by clicking on the “snowflake” icon on the County’s homepage at www.howardcountymd.gov and viewing the snow tracker map.

Thanks to global positioning devices on Howard County’s snow vehicles, the snow tracker map shows the current location of snow plow vehicles, roads that have been treated, whether roads were plowed or salted, and the location of roads still to be treated. During a snowstorm, residents can also receive updated recorded information on road conditions by calling Howard County’s Citizen Information Hotline at 410-313-2900.

To assist highway crews during a storm, residents with driveways are asked to park there and leave streets and cul-de-sacs clear whenever possible so snow removal vehicles can do their jobs quickly and public safety vehicles will have easier access in emergencies.

The Howard County snow plan covers more than 1,000 miles of a 3,800-road system which is divided into a series of routes. Primary and secondary roads receive the first service to ensure that public safety vehicles can provide service to citizens — then local residential roads are serviced. For further information please contact the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Highways at 410-313-7450.

Posted: December 10, 2008

The Howard Lions ice hockey season is in full swing. The guys on the team want Howard students and community members to bring out a contingency of fans!

“We need noise in the stands! Bring some noise makers and remember to wear your Howard blue and white!” says a group of fans.

A few big games are coming up, so mark your calendars:
A scrimmage against Centennial is scheduled for today, Wednesday, Dec 10th at 3 p.m. at the Columbia Ice Rink.

On Friday, Dec. 12 at 3:20 p.m., the Howard Lions will take on Wilde Lake at the Gardens House Ice, in Laurel.

On Fri. Dec 19 at 4:50 p.m., the Lions battle Mt. Hebron, also at the Gardens Ice House.

When you enter the Patrick Rink at the Gardens Ice House location, check out the huge Howard Lions banner! This banner was purchased courtesy of Clai Carr, owner of the Gardens, since Howard plays the vast majority of their home games there.
