As you drive around Howard County, I am sure you have seen the bumper stickers that say “Choose Civility”, as well as heard or read about the campaign at local libraries. Maybe you weren’t aware that there are even Choose Civility Awards.

The purpose of the Choose Civility Awards is to recognize businesses, organizations, and individuals that model civility in their daily lives, and whose actions and behavior set an example, raise the standards of civility, and make a sustainable impact in the Howard County community. Anyone in the community can nominate a business, organization or individual that they feel deserves special recognition for modeling the principles of civility.

If you know someone who deserves recognition, visit the Choose Civility Web site, www.ChooseCivility.org (click on What’s New), to find the guidelines, criteria, and a nomination form. Nominations will be accepted through Wednesday, July 15.

The awards will be presented at the Choose Civility Symposium Oct. 8.  The Symposium, held at the JHU APL Kossiakoff Center, is the culminating event of the 2009 Choose Civility Week in Howard County and is open to the public. The Choose Civility Awards are sponsored by Ascend One.
