On Saturday, October 4, the University of Maryland, Central Maryland Research and Education Center’s will hold its annual open house. The Center is near the intersections of Homewood, Shepard and Folly Quarter roads.
Many people don’t even realize this local resource that is in their own backyard. Come out and see what this farm is all about. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is a great opportunity for the general public to learn about the University of Maryland’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
This year’s theme is “Green and Sustainable” and many of the displays will show how the Center is going green, as well as how to incorporate similar methods into your daily living. In addition, there will be hay wagon tours, horses, cows and calves for viewing, a pedal tractor obstacle course, a butterfly garden, an herb demonstration, and a Master Gardener plant clinic.
For more information and/or directions call 800-342-2507 or 410-531-5556, or go to the Web site at www.hgic.umd.edu. The farm is at 4240 Folly Quarter Road, in Ellicott City.
