Brad Carpenter, Heather Perry and the membership of Glenelg High School’s Key Club are collecting more than candy this Halloween. In conjunction with UNICEF and the Kiwanis International Foundation, the local Key club members are raising money for the Swazi Children Care Project.
This lifesaving program funds hundreds of neighborhood care centers where orphaned and vulnerable children can receive meals, shelter, medical care, education and protection.
The Key Club members will accept donations during the football game at Glenelg High Friday, Oct. 31, 7 to 9 p.m. Some members will collect donations in our neighborhood during regular trick or treat hours. All money will be sent to UNICEF for donation to the program which aids these high-risk children.
The last flea market of the year will take place Sunday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sykesville’s famed Apple Butter Factory, located at South Branch Park, just over the bridge in Sykesville.
Kids are encouraged to come in costume for trick or treats from the varied vendors. Crafts, artisan items, flea market vendors, holiday decor gifts and entertainment are on the agenda. Members of the Carroll County Dance Center will perform scenes from the “Nutcracker” at 11:30 a.m. Selected scenes from “Romeo and Juliet” will be performed by the actors of the Shakespeare Factor at 12:30 p.m. and at 1:00 p.m., musical selections by Tapestry Acoustic will fill the air. This family friendly event has become a staple of Sunday “to do” activities.

The “like new” coats and jackets are priced at $5 and $10. Come by Curves and take a look.
