David Craine, a resident of Lutherville, has been appointed as a property management administrator at the Columbia headquarters of Manekin LLC. Craine is responsible for coding bills, investigating accounts payable, maintaining service agreements, assisting tenants and contractors, and performing additional day-to-day tasks.

Jim Acton, branch vice president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage Ellicott City/Enchanted Forest, has announced the office's top producers for June: Karen Nelson, individual; the DePaola/Reichner Team; and the Hulsman Group.

Two missions led by the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, in Laurel received NASA Group Achievement Awards: The STEREO (Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory) team, was recognized for its part in the design, development, test and launch of the twin observatories, which are capturing the first 3-D images of the sun and inner heliosphere. The TIMED (Thermosphere, Ionosphere, Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics) team earned an award for enhancing understanding of Earth's upper atmosphere and changes inducted by the sun, magnetosphere and human activity. In addition, Andy Driesman, STEREO's system engineer, received NASA's Exceptional Public Service Medal for his engineering leadership and management of the STEREO project.

United Way of Central Maryland has presented Mary Ann Scully, president and chief executive officer of Howard Bank, with the 37th annual Clementine Peterson Award, the highest honor bestowed by the organization to recognize outstanding leadership and volunteer contributions by a woman to United Way. Scully chaired Howard County's United Way campaign for two years and took the helm of the Howard County Partnership Board. United Way also honored Paul Gleichauf, senior vice president for strategic planning and market development for Howard County General Hospital, with the first Bernard Cook Meritorious Leadership Award. He previously led United Way's Board and Volunteer Development Committee, and is vice-chairman of the partnership board. Gleichauf will take over the board in 2010.

Leadership Howard County has announced the addition of five members to its 2008-2009 Board of Directors: Christa Spalding, vice president and relationship manager, Howard Bank; Ilana Bittner, producer, Pixel Workshop; Robert Freedman, president and principal, Corridor Reznick LLC, and Barbara Lawson, community representative. In addition, Paul Gleichauf, senior vice president of managed care, planning and marketing, Howard County General Hospital, has been appointed as the incoming board chairman for 2008-2009.

Bart Butler, of Woodstock and a real estate agent with Remax Lifestyles, has been selected to appear in an upcoming episode of a new HGTV show, "Good Buy, Bad Buy." The show pairs a local agent and a home inspector with prospective buyers trying to decide between several properties they are interested in buying. The episode was filmed in July in Columbia, and is scheduled to air in the fall.
