Robert Smith, owner of DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Glenelg, recently attended the company's 2008 national conference in Grapevine, Texas. During the four-day event, franchisees were introduced to DreamMaker vendors that provide an array of traditional and contemporary products, such as frameless cabinets. DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen, a top bath and kitchen remodeling, hosted the conference for its franchisees.

Owens & Minor Inc., a Fortune 500 company in Hanover that distributes national name-brand medical and surgical supplies, raised more than $15,000 for programs of the Casey Cares Foundation children's charity, by holding The Owens & Minor Golf Tournament on July 10 at Piney Branch Golf Club in Hampstead. More than 172 people participated in a day of golf, lunch, trophies, awards, raffles, auctions and a speech by two of the families who the Casey Cares Foundation serves.

Rebuilding Together Howard County in Columbia has appointed John Startt, a resident of Howard County, as the new president of its board of directors. Startt replaced retiring president Bob Schurter, who served three years as president and has served on the board since 1998. As president, Startt has plans for Rebuilding Together Howard County to repair and rehabilitate 30 homes in Howard County each year as well to be more proactive in recruiting board members. In addition, the following individuals have been elected as new officers: Gloria Gadson, chief executive officer of Gadson's Financial and Design Co., vice president; Cheryl Mattis, fiscal officer of Howard County Department of Citizen Services, secretary; and Marc Schulman, business advisor and executive director of Ernst & Young LLP, treasurer.

Paula Tignall, a resident of Marriottsville, has returned to Manekin LLC, headquartered in Columbia, after a four-year absence. Tignall now serves as a property management administrative assistant, supporting the firm's asset and property managers.

The United Way Community Partnership of Howard County has awarded a $2,000 grant to Neighbor Ride to support its Good Neighbor Fund. The Good Neighbor Fund makes it possible for Neighbor Ride to offer its transportation service to income-eligible seniors for free.

The Alpha Foundation of Howard County Inc. in Columbia, has elected the following individuals at its July meeting: David H. Barrett, reelected board member and office of Vice Chairman; Harold F. Financial Advantage Inc., a Columbia financial planning and investment firm has been named to Wealth Manager magazine's "2008 Top Dogs Report" - a ranking of America's 200 largest independent wealth managers. The rankings are based on assets under management. This is the sixth consecutive year that the firm has made the list. Financial Advantage manages more than $238 million of client assets.

Missy Mattey, the executive director of Howard Community College Educational Foundation Inc., has announced that Padraic Kennedy and Steve Margolis have been appointed as new members of the board of directors, and that directors, Joanne Eyre and Mohammed Warshanna are retiring. Paul Hartgen, the president and chief executive officer of the Restaurant Association of Maryland, has been appointed as a board member on the joint Board of Directors of the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association and the Baltimore Convention Center.

Richard Jaramillo, of Ellicott City is the recipient of the Authority Special Act Award, given by the Maryland Transportation Authority for outstanding job performance during 2007. Jaramillo, an assistant capital-planning program manager and Authority employee, was recognized for coordinating with multiple divisions within the agency to create a comprehensive and long-term planning assessment.
