Theodore Giovanis, of Highland, recently completed serving as chairman of the Community Services Reimbursement Rate Commission, which was established by the Maryland General Assembly to oversee the payment rates paid for the community services to the developmentally disabled and severely mentally ill. Gov. Martin O'Malley presented Giovanis a Governor's Citation for his service to Maryland.

Slayton House Conservatory, located in the village of Wilde Lake, announced the appointment of Nathan Rosen as its new director. Rosen has been teaching and directing at Atholton High School since 1997. He has directed many plays and musicals at Atholton, almost all of which he produced as well.

Laurie Mowrey, of Clarksville, Liz Smith, of Columbia, and Lynn Weymer, of Dayton, have become independent consultants with Tastefully Simple Inc., a national direct-sales company featuring gourmet products.

On April 9, the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors-Carroll/Howard presented a $500 check to American Cancer Society Community Manager Jen Burdette for the annual Relay for Life Campaign. The association has fielded a team which will participate in the event May 15 and 16 at the Ag Center.
