At the recent Fall Convention of the Maryland Licensed Beverage Association, the Howard County Licensed Beverage Association made a $650 donation to the Howard County PTA Safe After Prom Project, which was supplemented by a $350 donation from the Maryland Licensed Beverage Association. John Gorzo, president of the Howard County Licensed Beverage Association, presented the donation to Lin Guba, of the Safe After Prom Committee, who attended the event and accepted the donations in the amount of $1,000 on behalf of the Howard County PTA. The Safe After Prom program offers a safe and supervised social event for Howard County students.

Merkle, a Columbia-based marketing agency, announced that its Response Management Group has been selected by the Baltimore-based Catholic Relief Services -- the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States that provides assistance to people in more than 100 countries and territories.

As part of the three-year contract, the response group is preparing to support Catholic Relief Services' biggest annual fundraising program, "Operation Rice Bowl." The program takes place during Lent and encourages Catholic families, parishes and schools to prepare simple, meatless recipes and insert the money they would have spent on a bigger meal into small symbolic cardboard rice bowls. The money is collected at the end of Lent and used to support the nonprofit's mission to fight global hunger.

Health Analytics, of Columbia, a health care company that conducts and interprets scientific studies, was recognized at the Howard County Economic Development Authority's 16th annual meeting, at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory's Kossiakoff Center, Sept. 23. Health Analytics received the Howard County Economic Development Authority Economic Development Achievement Award for its contributions to enhance the economy and quality of life in Howard County.

DP Solutions, based in Columbia, donated 30 laptop computers to senior class students enrolled in Baltimore City's National Academy Foundation High School Academy of Information Technology early last month.
