Shannon Miller, a resident of Ellicott City and Rookie of the Year for Long & Foster Columbia, has relocated to Keller Williams Realty Centre, in Columbia.

David Carroll, of Ellicott City, has been appointed as the director of financial business operations for AT&T Inc.'s wireless operations in Maryland; Washington, D.C.; and northern Virginia.

Howard County Executive Kenneth Ulman and the Office of Children's Services honored individuals and programs that have made a difference in the lives of children, at the annual Celebrating Successes for Children ceremony. The ceremony recognized the contributions and dedication of 84 honorees, including child care providers, speech therapists, scout leaders, coaches, students and community education programs. Howard County category winners included: Ann Sweeney, a special educator with the Howard County Public Schools' Infants and Toddlers program, Infants and Toddlers Category; Edvina Gill, a teacher at Columbia Montessori, Preschool Category; Kevin McDuffie, coach at Howard High School, who has led his varsity basketball players in a volunteer reading program at Phelps Luck Elementary School, Kindergarten-fifth Grade Category; Irene Bademosi, guidance counselor at Mt. Hebron High School, Sixth-12 Grade Category; Alex Dunbar, a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, summer camp counselor and school volunteer, Mixed Age Group; Brian Daugherty, a high school junior who speaks to local groups about mental illness, Outstanding Youth; Dan Harris, general manager of the AMC Columbia Theater and Marianne Ross, a parent advocate who together created a Special Needs Movie Night, Family Friendly Business; and Theodore A. Ferguson Sr., a leader in the Gator African American Parents Program that serves Reservoir High School, O'Donnell Family Award.

Viega, a provider of plumbing, radiant heating and snow melting products, in Columbia, has appointed Timothy Lawrence, a Columbia resident, as the company's radiant sales manager covering mid-Atlantic sales territory.

Hospice of Baltimore and Hospice of Howard County, Maryland's largest hospice organization, announced that both locations are changing their name to Gilchrist Hospice Care.

The Howard County Conservancy has been named as the first Maryland Green Center in Howard County by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education. The Maryland Green Center Awards Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 29, 1 p.m., at the Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville Campus.

The Maryland Committee for the Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve has nominated the Baltimore Aircoil Co., in Jessup; and Summitt Solutions, in Ellicott City, for the 2008 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The award, given by the Secretary of Defense, is the highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of their employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. This year's award will be presented on Sept. 18 in Washington, D.C. In addition, George Doetsch, chairman of the Maryland ESGR Committee has selected both companies as recipients of the Pro Patria Award, the highest state-level award given to employers. This award will be presented on June 26 at the Crown Plaza Hotel, in Timonium.

The Woman's Giving Circle of Howard County has elected the following officers: Buffy Beaudoin-Schwartz, chair; Mary Ann Scully, vice chair; and Cynthia Taliano, treasurer. In addition, new committee chairs have been appointed: Jean F. Moon, grants; Cynthia Taliano, donor development; Missy Mattey, resource development; Linda Odum, leadership; and Buffy Beaudoin-Schwartz, communications.

Tecore Networks, a provider of multi-protocol mobile networks for emerging operators and rapid deployments, in Columbia, has announced the appointment of Scott Hill as the executive vice president of global commercial and federal sales.

The Center for Business and Technology Development in Columbia, has announced that Mary Redmond has been appointed as the business counselor for the Maryland Small Business Development Center's satellite office at the center.

Betsy Retler Richardson, of Woodbine and The Rouse Company Foundation have been inducted into the Greater Baltimore Medical Center's Joseph S. Keelty Society, which recognizes philanthropy to GBMC HealthCare and Gilchrist Hospice Care with cumulative gifts of $250,000 or more.

Merkle, the soon-to-be Columbia-based marketing agency, has announced that it is working with the United States Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C., on a three-year, multimillion dollar contract.
