Centennial High School principal Scott Pfeifer is joining the Maryland State Department of Education to head its high school assessment and reform efforts. Pfeifer replaces Daniel Cunningham, who has been head of the Instructional Assessment Office for 18 months. Cunningham is retiring after 33 years in Maryland public education and joining the staff of the College Board.

Audacious Inquiry, a management and technology firm in Howard County's Center for Business and Technology Development, has announced that it is serving as strategy and project management partner to the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients, a nonprofit joint venture to promote health information exchange in Maryland. The partnership will be supported by $250,000 from the Health Services Cost Review Commission funded through the hospital rate-setting system.

William Morgan, an Ameriprise financial adviser whose office is in Ellicott City, has earned the company's status of being an Ameriprise private wealth adviser. Morgan is one of more than 10,000 Ameriprise financial advisers to achieve the qualifications needed to become a private wealth advisory practice within the company.

Medisolv, a graduate firm of the Howard County Center for Business and Technology Development's NeoTech Incubator has hired Ken McCormick as the vice president of client services.

Hugh Gregory Jr., an Ellicott City physician and division head of rehabilitative medicine and medical director of the Rehabilitation Center at Maryland General Hospital, is the recipient of two awards, Excellence in Customer Service and Top Admitter.

The Horizon Foundation has announced the winners of the Fifth Annual Horizon Foundation Awards: Robert Duggan, co-founder and president of Tai Sophia Institute, in Laurel, the Richard G. McCauley Leadership Award; Howard Community College, the Health Education Award (to be accepted on behalf of the college by Sharon Pierce, college health services chairwoman); Leadership U, the Connections Asset Development Award (to be accepted on behalf of the organization by Krysta Huxford, youth program director); and Margaret Browning, anti-smoking advocate and cancer survivor, the Community Appreciation Award.

Joseph Murray Sr., of Columbia and community relations director of Ascend One Corp., also in Columbia, has been appointed to the Governor's Commission on Service and Volunteerism by Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Aquarius Sports Group, a sports marketing firm in Fulton, has signed Johnsonville Sausage as a corporate partner of D.C. United. Johnsonville will be a sponsor of D.C. United and an RFK Stadium advertiser for the remainder of 2008.

Havit Advertising, in Fulton, has announced that its president and founder, Jeffrey Goldscher, is a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008 Award. The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

Judy Templeton, clinical supervisor of Family and Children's Services' Healthy Families Howard County program, has won Soroptomist International of Howard County's 2008 Making a Difference for Women Award. The award honors women who have made extraordinary differences in the lives of other women through their work or volunteer activities.

Ascend One Corp., a company that helps consumers break the cycle of credit card debt, has promoted Joe Kotula to senior director of marketing; Judy Bluhm to director of project management; and Jean Elias to director of online marketing.

Christina Wanex, of Ellicott City, has earned top honors in Tia Sophia's Excellent Beginnings Program Achievers, for her sales accomplishments and professionalism.

Cindi Arnold, of RE/MAX 100 in Columbia, has earned the EcoBroker Certified designation, after successfully completing a comprehensive training program on the energy and environmental issues in residential real estate. She is the only EcoBroker in Howard County and one of a handful in the state.

William Driscoll, of Ellicott City, has been promoted to administrative vice president and regional manager of private client services for the greater Washington region and product manager for private banking for the M&T Bank franchise. Driscoll will be responsible for expanding M&T's private client services, which include financial planning, fiduciary services, investment management, employee benefits, institutional investment management/custody, insurance and private banking.

Syntonics, a Columbia-based company and a graduate of the Howard County Center for Business and Technology Development's NeoTech Incubator, has developed a low-profile vest antenna that helps safeguard military radio operators from identification by enemy snipers. The vest antenna was developed in response to an e-mail from a U.S. Army sergeant stationed in Baghdad, Iraq.
