Thanksgiving, just one week away! I say it every year, "where has the time gone?" I can not believe that the holiday season is upon us and soon we will be facing a new year.
Well, before we get too far into the column, I want to invite the entire community to attend the Community Thanksgiving Worship Service. This year the community worship service will be held at the Countryside Fellowship Church Sunday, Nov. 23 beginning at 5:30 p.m. This is a community worship event when all our community church members come together to thank God for the blessings given to each of us.
Following the worship service is a dessert social where there is always delicious pies, cookies and cakes along with a time of fellowship with friends and neighbors. So be sure to mark your calendars for this upcoming community event.
The First Baptist Church of Savage Youth Group will be taking "hot" Thanksgiving dinner plates on Thanksgiving Day to those in need or shut-in. The meal consists of the traditional Thanksgiving feast with turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls and dessert.
They do all of the work and all they need from the community are names of those in need or shut-in who would enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner plate on Thanksgiving Day. If you would like to receive a dinner plate, call Linda at the church office at 301-725-3944.
The First Baptist Church of Savage is once again taking food and monetary donations for their Bread of Life Food Pantry. Jackie Waller, Bread of Life Food Pantry Chairperson, has indicated that there is a need for canned and non-perishable food items. There are many people in need throughout our community and this is just one of the local resources for helping them by giving to others. As economic times are bad for all of us, they are in some cases worse for others. If you are able to make a donation to the Bread of Life Food Pantry, call 301-725-3944.
For some "Holiday Magic," the Historic Savage Mill is sponsoring a holiday extravaganza Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 22 and 23. There will be many artist and merchant events, to include "Artists of the Mill Art Walk," where patrons can come and see the many artifacts for sale by the local merchants which sampling some wine and cheese refreshments Nov. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.; Cathy Harville Studio will have a children's coloring contest from 1 to 4 p.m. both days; Bead Soup - Make and Take Earrings (Nov. 22, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and Nov. 23, noon-2 p.m.) in the New Weave Building; and many other holiday attractions.
There will be many family events, including a strolling magician from 3 to 5 p.m. both days and a puppet show from 1 to 2 p.m. both days. Recognizing that a holiday event would not be complete without a special guest for children, Santa Claus will make his appearance in the New Weave Building from 3 to 5 p.m. each day
The Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a craft and vendor show Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. This show will feature home party show vendors and local crafters. There will be a variety of "cash and carry" items for immediate purchase, in addition to a holiday craft workshop for children. The crafts range in price from $1 to $5 each.
To delight the children, Santa will arrive at 10 a.m. by fire engine and make an entrance that is sure to bring smiles to the young and young at heart. Parents will be able to have children's pictures with Santa, as well as begin their holiday shopping!
The kitchen will be open for lunch, so plan on a morning and afternoon of shopping and eating! Call 410-761-6633, Ext. 3.
Happy birthday wishes and happy anniversary wishes go out to all of my readers who will be celebrating this upcoming week.
