The county has installed global positioning systems on its snowplows, allowing residents to track their location. The system also shows whether roads have been salted or plowed, the release states.
Snow removal is done first on primary and secondary roads in order to make sure police and fire vehicles can reach residents. After that, local residential roads are plowed, the release states.
Residents with driveways are asked to park their vehicles off roads during snowstorms to make it easier for snowplows to do their job.
To track the plows, visit the county Web site at www.howardcountymd.gov and click on the snowflake icon on the Web page. Recorded information on road conditions is available by calling 410-313-2900.
