Kimberly Snider, of West Laurel, recevied the Girl Scout Gold Award on Dec. 13 at Davis Hall in College Park.

A Girl Scout since the age of 5, Kim advanced from Daisy to Brownie, Junior, Cadet and Senior. As a Cadet, she earned the Silver Award, and for her community project collected baby items for the Laurel Pregnancy Center.

The Gold Award requirements include working 40 hours in a paying job; earned the Girl Scout 4B Challenge Award; earning four Interest Project patches; and carrying out a service project of at least 65 hours. For her project, Kim worked more than 100 hours at the College Park Animal Shelter, painting, reorganizing and renovating the interior and landscape and distributing adoption information in the community.

The daughter of Beth and Jim Snider, Kim attended Bond Mill Elementary School and Martin Luther King Middle School and graduated from Laurel High School in June 2008, where she was a member of the ROTC and the high school band.

Boy Scout Troop 1010 held a court of honor to recognize two Eagle Scouts Jan. 10 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Jacob Ausherman and Tyler Shank both earned the rank of Eagle in 2008. Both Scouts were members of Cub Scout Pack 1673 in West Laurel, where they rose through the ranks and each earned the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting.

For his Eagle project, Tyler rebuilt a shed at Holy Trinity, while Jacob's Eagle project was to landscape the prayer garden at the church.

Both Scouts are 2008 graduates of Pallotti High, and are both freshmen at Hood College in Frederick. Tyler is the son of Pam Shank and Dave Shank, and Jacob's parents are Don and Val Ausherman.
