March 29 marks the date for the fourth annual Mustang Stampede! This spirited community and family event includes a 5K race and 1-mile fun run to benefit the Marriotts Ridge High School Boosters. All proceeds will support the school's clubs, athletic teams and fine arts groups. Entry fee is $20.

Participants may register online by March 27 at www.mrhs-boosters.com/stampede09.html, or pick up a race packet at Feet First in Hickory Ridge Village Center March 28 from noon to 6 p.m.

The store address is 6420 Freetown Road in Columbia. Race day registration takes place from 8-8:45 a.m. at the snack bar near the school track at 12100 Woodford Drive, in Marriottsville.

Runners will depart from the track at 9 a.m., rain or shine. From Woodford Drive, they will turn right onto Route 99 and follow a triangular path: left on Mt. View Road to the traffic circle near Crest Lawn Memorial Park; left on Sand Hill Road to the intersection with Route 99, and then left again towards the school. The above-mentioned website contains a map of the race, as well as details about prizes and awards.

Of course, a fundraiser of this magnitude requires an equally large number of volunteers. If you would like to help or require more information, call race director Craig Stout at 410-750-6326 or e-mail mustang5k@comcast.net.

The runners also appreciate encouragement, so come on out to cheer their progress!

On March 28, River Hill High School presents an evening of jazz featuring the River Hill Jazz Ensemble, with special guest appearances by the Atholton Jazz Ensemble and trombone soloist Jim McFalls. The show begins at 7:30 p.m., and admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

For more information, call River Hill band director Joe Fischer at 410-313-6927 or e-mail joe_fischer@hcpss.org. The school address is 12101 Route 108 in Clarksville.

The school address is 11575 Frederick Road in Ellicott City.

Imagine this scenario: you are marrying for the second time and wish to plan a classy, yet non-traditional wedding in a culture geared towards first-time brides and grooms. You also seek guidance on how to combine two households, blend two families into one, and make smart legal and financial decisions.

However, you discover very few resources for individuals marrying a second (or subsequent) time.

When West Friendship resident Paula Bisacre experienced this situation firsthand, she recognized the need for an authoritative source for remarriage information.

Formerly an analyst with the Department of Defense, the remarried mother of five has since founded the company Remarriage and began publishing the online magazine reMarriage. Bisacre also writes a monthly "On reMarriage" column for The Washington Times and accepts public speaking engagements.

"The divorce rates for second marriages are even higher than for first marriages. I'd like to help change that. I'd like to introduce resources for enabling successful remarriages and stepfamilies to people before they remarry," Bisacre said.

In keeping with her goal, Paula has partnered with Gramercy Mansion in Baltimore to debut reMarriage magazine's Premier Bridal Showcase Saturday, March 21 from noon to 3 p.m. at Gramercy Mansion, 1400 Greenspring Valley Road, in Baltimore.

This upscale event offers a champagne brunch and elegant door prizes, such as a romantic getaway to Gramercy Mansion, and features non-traditional wedding attire for the remarrying bride.

Other exhibitors include those with expertise in family travel, family law, mortgage services, financial and estate planning, and stepfamily counseling.

Registration for the showcase costs $20, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the National Family Resiliency Center in Columbia.
