The Clarksville Middle School wind ensemble received superior ratings at the recent Maryland State Middle School Band Festival. They had an outstanding performance that clearly showed why they were invited to be one of only three middle schools to perform in the 63rd Midwest Clinic, an international band and orchestra conference in Chicago in December. Our kids are fantastic.
Would you like to hear them? The CMS Spring Concert is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. at River Hill High School. All are welcome.
You can also hear younger up-and-coming musicians May 28. Clarksville Elementary band and strings will perform in concert for your enjoyment.
River Hill Garden Center will host a Memorial Day picnic May 23-25. They'll be serving hot dogs, slushies and popcorn. For more information, call the garden center at 410-531-3303.
Birthdays? We have birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions for celebration in Clarksville.
First the good news, then the bad. Joan Reilly celebrated her birthday May 12. Hope you had a wonderful day and will have a great year. Her son, Parker Reilly, recently ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing soccer. Family and friends all hope he'll be getting around on crutches nicely in time for his graduation from River Hill High School. Hang in there.
Maureen Marks, daughter of Ree and Loren Cascioli celebrated her birthday May 16. Parents and brother Jonathan helped to make it a great day.
Today is an extra special day for Shelby Scott. Do you know why? May 21 is Shelby's birthday. She's 11 years old. Happy birthday, Shelby. Have a great year.
Beth and Rick Cascioli celebrated their wedding anniversary May 20. The years fly by so quickly. Maybe their children Michael, Adam and Leah will multiply the joys of the day. Happy anniversary.
It seems the Waltons just got home. That's because they did, but Margaret caught a big bird and flew back to Florida May 20. Granddaughter Anne Margaret will be graduating from Grace Episcopal Day School.
It seems to Margaret her namesake was born just yesterday. Anne Margaret was asked to appear at the Clay County Fair where she sang, "If I Only Had a Brain" from the Wizard of Oz. Her vocal coach, "Miss Marie" Hardway has her singing Broadway show tunes and recently assigned "Oh, You Beautiful Doll." Who knows? One day soon you may be able to see Annie singing in New York City. While Nana is in Florida, the twins, Jack and Randy, will turn 3 May 22. Mom Julie can't believe the boys are three already. Where is granddad while all this is going on? Randy's staying home to get things back in shape on NOTLAW Acres after their "snowbird" winter. Ah, the joys of home ownership.
If you have a job these days, you should be thankful. Almost every family has someone out of work. The Waltons' cousin, Katie Bond, lost her job as a landscape engineer in Michigan. As an alternative source of income, she has turned to a hobby she loves -- jewelry. She and her husband have two little boys. They invite you to go to www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6915779 .
Kate Essman, daughter of Kristine and Jeff Essman, of Wayside Drive, celebrated her First Communion at St. Louis Church. Sister Megan and brother Brent were happy to share the day with her. Grandparents Barbara and Jack Troutner plus aunts, uncles and cousins joined in the memory-making day.
Hilltop Child Care Center is now enrolling for both summer and fall sessions. The summer theme is "Magical Movie Summer." Each week cooking, crafts, drama and outdoor activities will revolve around a favorite G-rated movie. One day each week is "water day." Hilltop accepts toilet trained children age 3 until kindergarten entry and is open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. For information, call 443-535-8505.
