Well, here it is, our town's annual festival - Savage Fest 2009 weekend. the Savage Community Association and many community members have been busy during the last few months planning and preparing for this annual event, which is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 (11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) and Sunday, June 7 (noon -6 p.m.).
For those vendors who have not yet registered, but would like to participate by either selling their crafts, food, or just publicizing their organization, it is not too late.
Myra Phelps, of the SCA, is the point of contact for obtaining a space. She can be reached by calling 301-498-9133.
The SCA has assured that this year's Festival will prove to be a much fun this year as in the past. There will be a kick-off parade beginning at 10 a.m. at Bollman Bridge Elementary School and traveling down Savage Guilford Road.
Be sure to get your seat early so you can have a great view of the parade participants.
Following the parade, the vendors, games and rides begin. There will be door prizes, games, rides, food, and entertainment provided by a local band, Dysfunuction. On June 7, there will be a Kareoke contest -- sure to draw some of our local singers -- why not sign up to try your vocals?
If you would like additional information about this event, Travis Clever, SCA president, is able to answer your questions and can be reached by e-mail at tclever1987@gmail.com.
In addition to the Savage Festival, the Savage United Methodist Church is holding their Annual Strawberry Festival Saturday, June 6. The SUMC members prepare pit beef, barbecue beef, chicken salad, baked beans, and more. Saving the best for last -- I just cannot resist dessert -- I have to be sure and tell you about their homemade strawberry shortcakes. topped with ice cream -- ummmm! You will not want to miss this annual opportunity to indulge just a little.
The Annual Strawberry Festival kicks off at 11 a.m. and, trust me, the line usually begins at that time. See you there!
A big congratulations goes out to Branden Kromer, a sophomore at Hammond High School, who won Bowler of the Week in a tournament held at the Columbia Bowling Alley. Branden received a $500 scholarship for college, a jacket and Trophy for his winnings. Great job, Branden! Your family wishes you the best and says, "Keep on bowling, Branden, we love you!"
I want to wish all of my readers who will be celebrating a birthday or anniversary during the upcoming week, a great one and many more!
