I was in the Clarksville Giant the other day and I noticed this rather tall young man who looked vaguely familiar.
Since I was heading toward the checkout lanes and he was working on one, I decided to use his aisle.
"Is your last name Funke?," I asked. "Yes it is. Hi, Chuck," he replied. "I thought that was you, Larry. How are you doing?" I said.
Larry Funke was one of my first Cub Scouts back in the day when Pack 108 was started in 1996. Pack 108, which meets at St. Loius School, in Clarksville, was an idea conceived by Susan Miller, a local mom and retired area Boy Scouts of America Council leader. His dad, a scientist, was one of my first pack leaders. Larry is home from college after completeing his freshman year. He's studying engineering.
Another college student who is home for the summer that I saw in the area is Allison Geoghan. She's just completed her second year at Monmouth.
A couple birthdays babies to recognize: Charlie Gait, whose birthday is Flag Day; and, Brittni Souder, whose birthday is the day before. Happy birthday to both of you.
That's all for this week. Enjoy your summer. Look after your neighbors. Say a prayer our troops who are serving in harm's way. And remember their families. Pay it forward and commit a random act of kindness.
