*Women in Afghanistan: Oppression & U.S. Occupation -- Saturday, Oct. 10, from noon - 2:30 p.m. Zoya, visiting from Afghanistan, will share the message of RAWA, The Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, an organization formed in the late 1970s to empower Afghan women to fight for their human rights, and speak on the rights of women and the impact of U.S. military intervention in her country. Light refreshments will be provided. The event is free and open to the public. Handmade jewelry and embroidered items from Afghanistan will be sold to benefit humanitarian projects such as orphanages and schools. Cash, checks or credit cards will be accepted. For security reasons, no cameras are allowed at the event. Sponsored by Howard County Coalition for Peace & Justice, Just Peace Circles, and Howard County Friends of Latin America.
