Trick or Treat! This is the weekend that kicks off the beginning of the holiday seasons for our area. There is Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and a flurry of various holiday events and celebrations within our community coming up. Be sure to keep reading so that you will not miss out on upcoming events and celebrations.
Speaking of events for our community, Pam Nixon, outreach coordinator for the First Baptist Church of Savage, wants to be sure that the message has gotten out into the community about the annual Fall Festival being held at the First Baptist Church Oct. 31.
This event will be held from 6-9 p.m. and is an alternative to the traditional trick-or-treating. There will be games, face painting, food and lots of candy. Not only do children attending this event have a great time, the new pastor for FBC of Savage, the Rev. Kenneth Gooch, will be on hand to talk to the children and parents.
This annual event is planned for children in first through fifth grades. Parents are invited to attend with their children. If you have questions about this event, please call either Linda Christner or Nixon at FBC Office at 301-725-3944.
The Savage United Methodist Church is preparing for their upcoming Fall Festival. This event will be held Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. As this event always draws a crowd, you will want to mark your calendars and come early.
In addition to their usual home-cooked dinner available for purchase, there will be a craft fair, bake sale and a white elephant room (you just never know what you will get with those white elephants).
The menu will consist of soup and sandwiches (ham, chicken salad and pulled pork are the sandwich choices). For additional information about this upcoming event, call Sharon Brown at 301-725-7630.
If you are looking for a little fun and thrill, the Terrapin Adventures can provide the source. They are offering "Zips for Cans" Nov. 14 and 15. For anyone who wants to zipline through the trees for free, all you need do is bring five cans of food or a new board game which will be donated to Grassroots Crisis Center. After you give your donation, then just wait your turn and buckle up for the ride of your life.
The Terrapin Adventures has been a hit in our community and after the successful season, Matt and Jeryl Baker want to give a little something back to the community. So take advantage of this fun adventure while helping a worthwhile cause.
I would like to extend a happy birthday wish to my brother-in-law, Benny Mullins, who will be celebrating Friday, Oct. 30.
I want to extend happy anniversary and/or happy birthday wishes to all of my readers who will celebrate during the upcoming week.
