His visit, sponsored by Columbia Tomorrow, a nonprofit group focused on shaping this area's future, will include breakfast with County Executive Kenneth Ulman, Columbia Association president Phil Nelson and Columbia Tomorrow founder Jud Malone, meetings with various local groups and a bike tour of Columbia.

The tour, which is open to cyclists and residents, will begin with a discussion of challenges in creating a bike-friendly city, followed by a seven-mile ride led by Hindman and Columbia Association staff.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Columbia Association headquarters, at 10221 Wincopin Circle, in Columbia.

Hindman also will make brief remarks at a dessert reception at 6:30 p.m. at the Howard Community College Horowitz Center.

Following the reception, participants can attend "I bike because ...", a reading of stories from cyclists at the Horowitz Center's Monteabaro Hall.

Known for promoting non-motorized transportation, Hindman was first elected mayor of Columbia, Mo., in 1995. He has served on the Missouri State Parks Advisory Board and the Missouri Economic Development Finance Board.
