With the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season, our community is getting into the giving spirit. The community churches are sponsoring a Burke Family Concert to be held Nov. 21 in the Carroll Baldwin Hall at 6:30 p.m.

You may wonder how this free concert helps those in need. Well, all attendees are being asked to bring two canned food or boxed food items for a donation to the Bread of Life Food Pantry, housed at the First Baptist Church of Savage.

There are many families who are facing hard times during this tough economical crisis and if we all pitch in just a little, everyone will benefit.

The Burke Family will perform for our community and all we need to do is attend and bring just a small donation.

If you have never heard the Burke Family, then you are in for a real treat. When their voices come together some of the sweetest gospel music is heard.

Everyone is invited to attend this concert and you are encouraged to bring a friend or neighbor. So be sure to circle the date and gather those two donated food items!

For those who may not be aware, the Bread of Life Food Pantry helps feed more than 60 local families a month. This is just one of the ways that you can help make a difference during the upcoming holiday season. If we all give a little, everyone benefits a lot.

Just a reminder that the Savage United Methodist Church is holding its annual Fall Festival Nov. 14. They will be offering homemade soup and sandwiches and a craft bazaar for those who may want to kick-start their Christmas shopping.

They will also have a bake sale for those who may have a little sweet tooth following their meal. This event will be held from 11 a.m. 'til 4 p.m.

If you would like more information, call the church office at 301-725-7630.

This announcement is an FYI for parents of teenage drivers. The Savage Community Watch Team wants to let parents of teenage drivers know that the Howard County Police Department is offering a new program for teen drivers who could benefit from more specialized experience on the road.

This new training program, Collision Avoidance Training, is being taught by law enforcement officers and will prepare teens for various road hazards and driving conditions.

The program is being held Nov. 13, 6-9 p.m., and Nov. 14, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. There is a fee of $195 for the class and space is limited.

If you would like additional information about this program and its location, call 410-313-3750.

I want to wish all of my readers who will be celebrating either a birthday or an anniversary during the upcoming week a very happy one!

To all of my readers, have a great week!
