Working less than a mile from museum for the past 21 years, he has seen the museum from the beginning, and watched it developed through the years. He has worked for Domino Sugar for much of his professional life, beginning as an assistant production manager in 1988 overseeing high-volume warehousing, shipment organization and empty-package procurement. Currently he is the refinery manager working to strengthen and promote the importance of manufacturing in the state of Maryland and city of Baltimore. He manages up to 400 employees.
Fitzgibbon holds a master of science in management from Lesley College, Cambridge, Mass., and a bachelor of science in biology from Ithaca (N.Y.) College. He has been active supporting education and life enrichment, volunteering with the Cub Scouts, Howard County high schools, St. Benedictine Foundation, middle school softball and other civic organizations. He's a member of several business groups including: Fort McHenry Association, Baltimore Industrial Group and Maryland Business for Responsible Government.
Tressa Springmann, of Glenwood, and a member of the executive team at Greater Baltimore Medical Center with two decades of experience in health care industry information systems, has been selected to serve on the advisory for Maryland's statewide health information exchange.
Springmann, vice president and chief information officer for GBMC, will serve on the Exchange Technology Committee of the Chesapeake Regional Information Systems for its patients (www.crisphealth.org).
At GBMC, Springmann's responsibilities include strategic oversight of all information systems and telecommunications for GBMC hospital, Gilchrist Hospice Care and Greater Baltimore Medical Associates.
The St. Agnes Foundation announced the appointment of three new members, including one Howard County resident, Harry Davis Jr., to its Board of Directors and Fumiko Campbell as the first ever Board Member Emeritus.
Davis, of Woodbine, is currently the president of Alpha Omega Biotechnology, a biotechnology company with a mission to provide comprehensive research animal services to the growing scientific and medical research community.
Bon Secours Health System Inc., based in Marriottsville, announced the appointment of Dr. Donald G. Seitz, MSHA, to the role of board chair for the national Catholic health system. Seitz will succeed Sister Patricia A. Eck, C.B.S., who was elected last month to Congregation Leader of the Sisters of Bon Secours worldwide. A retired orthopedic surgeon, Seitz will assume his new role effective Jan. 1, 2010, and will serve part-time, reflecting a new governance model for the organization.
As board chair, Seitz will serve as the lead board member for Bon Secours, articulating the mission of the Sisters of Bon Secours and Bon Secours Ministries for the Bon Secours board and executive leaders.
HC DrugFree, a nonprofit organization, based in Columbia, that seeks to empower the Howard County community to raise drug-free teens, appointed Joan Webb Scornaienchi as executive director. Scornaienchi, a resident of Columbia, has more than 20 years of experience in higher education, in addition to service as a drug and alcohol prevention specialist for a county funded hospital program.
Scornaienchi was a grants specialist and education program specialist for the Division of Special Education/Early Intervening Services of the Maryland State Department of Education. She also served in the financial services division of a Fortune 100 company in Columbia. Scornaienchi holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, a master's degree in student personnel services and completed all but her dissertation for a doctorate in educational administration.
The founder and president of Fulton-based Quality Associates Inc., Paul Swidersky, was named Entrepreneur of the Year by the Howard County Maryland Chamber of Commerce. He received the award during a formal celebration and dinner at the Turf Valley Resort, in Ellicott City, Oct. 2.
The company provides services and solutions for large-scale document management, imaging, and electronic archiving.
In 1986, Swidersky started Quality Associates to provide quality assurance and regulatory consulting services to the pharmaceutical and agrichemical industries. The company grew steadily, and in 1996 entered into the document conversion and digital content management business. In 2006, the company relocated to a state-of-the-art facility within the Maple Lawn business park in Fulton. Today, Quality Associates employs more than 85 and serves federal, state and local governments, and all types of private industries.
In April 2008, Quality Associates established a new subsidiary, DocPoint Solutions, which specializes in Microsoft SharePoint applications.
