It's that time of year once again to lend a helping hand. The gift of time or service is a gift from the heart. Volunteering is a great way to share this gift as well as meet people, make new friends, learn about your community and surrounding communities and, most important of all, have fun. Whether it's volunteering on the many committees in our community of Russett or with the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County, no matter how great or small, you can make a difference. The Holiday Volunteer Guide listing volunteer opportunities as well as donation needs through early January 2010 is now available and anyone can receive a free copy of the guide by stopping by the Volunteer Center, 2666 Riva Road, Suite 130 in Annapolis, or via e-mail by sending a request to info@volunteerannearundel.org. It is also posted on the Web site at www.VolunteerAnneArundel.org and can be downloaded for free.
Russett has teamed up with the Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Program and is a designated drop off location. Please bring your new, unwrapped toys to the Russett Community Center through Tuesday, Dec. 22. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For further details, contact Angel Barber at 301-498-3897, ext. 12, or e-mail staff@russett.org.
With the holiday season right around the corner, where better to find unique gifts then at the Laurel Senior Friendship Club's annual holiday celebration and craft fair on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Phelps Senior Center, 701 Montgomery St. There will be locally made crafts, Thanksgiving and autumn items, a silent auction, white reindeer sale, Santa's secret shop, bake sale, light lunch, kid's activity table and much more. So come on out with the whole family and help support our senior citizens.
Russett's Breakfast with Santa for Dec. 5 and 6 is sold out.
Please join your fellow teachers and parents tonight, Nov. 19, at Meade Middle School's PTSA meeting at 7 p.m. in the media center.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my family, friends and loyal readers.
