Howard Community College and the Howard County Center of African American Culture Inc. officially reopened a cultural research library on the college's Columbia campus Nov. 13.
The Howard County Center of African American Culture Research Library is contained within the college's James Clark Jr. Library Hall, and had been closed for 14 months while the hall was renovated.
The research library contains more than 6,000 volumes related to African-American culture. The repository includes historic collections of fiction, non-fiction, reference materials and periodicals. It has been located at HCC since 2003.
The culture research library is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
The Howard County Center of African American Culture Inc. is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation and interpretation of the African-American history and culture of Howard County and the region.
