Russett's annual Breakfast with Santa event Dec. 5 and 6 was once again a big hit. Sounds of the season piped throughout the community center while a festively decorated Christmas tree added to the ambiance. Children with their eyes all a-glow awaited Santa's arrival as the smell of scrambled eggs, coffee, bacon and more filled the air and tickled their noses, making their mouths water. Around 9:30 a.m., a loud "ho, ho, ho" was heard as Santa made his way to his seat.
Familiar faces included Lisa, Tony, Dominic and Mattie Bonano; Richard, Constance and Sabrina Speake; and RCA Board director Joe Franco and his wife, Crystal.
Children not only had their pictures taken with the jolly ole elf from the North, but they also participated in a game to guess the number of mini candy canes in a jar. The winner on Saturday was Zachary Blackwell, who guessed 199, pretty close to the actual number of 198; and Sunday's winner was Kiana Craven whose guess was exactly 198. Each winner received a Christmas polar bear.
All the kids received a Santa dollar and a goodie bag to take home with them. As the event was winding down and everyone was heading home, Santa gathered up his sack, bid everyone a hearty farewell and slipped away to check on his reindeer.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this exciting event. In addition, an extra big thank-you goes out to my fellow volunteers on the Activities Committee, Cathy Mason, Nycole Hollington, Elysia Oudemans, Bee Azan and Marcella Dunivan, for their time and hard work in planning all the events.
To celebrate the Christmas holiday, Community United Methodist Church, located on 300 Brock Bridge Road, is having a family Christmas Eve service on Thursday, Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. The community is invited to join in the celebration. For more information, please contact Pastor Fox at 301-725-4918.
Holiday lights and seasonal displays always add something special to the season. I remember as a child driving with my family throughout different neighborhoods to look at all the houses with the various light and other festive displays. I was, and still am, in awe of its beauty.
If you're looking for something the whole family can do, take a ride over to the Four Seasons community in Gambrills and check out their lights. For the past 15 years, Four Seasons has held an annual holiday lights and seasonal display competition. The community is located north and south of Waugh Chapel Road in western Anne Arundel County. Residents throughout Anne Arundel County and the region come to see the phenomenal displays, and I know I will.
To all my loyal readers, family, neighbors and friends, Happy holidays and a very happy New Year!
