Did you make a resolution to get your financial affairs in order for 2010? Well, we are so lucky to have the North Laurel-Savage Multi Service Center in our area. They are offering financial counseling each Thursday in January, from 7 to 9 p.m. Give them a call to make an appointment at 410-880-5917.
They are offering several other programs as well. They will meet with WIC clients on two Saturdays, Jan. 16 and 30. They also are offering a NAMI support group for family and friends of loved ones with mental illness.
They offer this for both English and Spanish speaking individuals each Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Take advantage of all they offer. We really can benefit from all the resources they have brought to our area.

Emmanuel Methodist Preschool is holding an open house Jan. 26, 9:30 to 11 a.m. They will also be offering a workshop for all parents with children going into kindergarten next fall.
The workshop, "Transition to Kindergarten," will feature Lisa Davis, early childhood program coordinator for Howard County Public Schools, Feb. 4. The school is at 10755 Scaggsville Road.

Have any of you been interested in history of the area? Well, we are so lucky to have two historical societies in our area, Laurel and Savage. The Savage Historical Society will host an open house Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in room 3 of the F & M Center, 9032 Baltimore St. Everyone is welcome to come and see what they are all about. I know several North Laurel members who find they offer information on all of southeast Howard County, including North Laurel.
Don't forget that Relay for Life of Laurel is holding its 2010 kick off and registration party Tuesday, Jan. 19, 5-8 p.m., at the Laurel Lakes Greene Turtle Restaurant.
Anyone interested can attend. Also that day, The Greene Turtle is hosting Relay's Funds for Friends Fundraiser at the restaurant 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call 301-317-1220 or go to www.relayforlifelaurel.org.
The Savage Boys and Girls Club 12U boys travel baseball team will hold its annual spaghetti dinner Jan. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Savage Fire Hall. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children in advance or $10 for adults and $7 for children at the door. E-mail SJSPI@aol.com.
North Laurel's own Tai Sophia is offering several events this month. They are about to start the second week of free classes. Their classes are about upcoming movement, meditation and bodywork and will start Tuesday, Jan. 19. They will offer classes in qi gong and chakra energy balancing. On Wednesday, Jan. 20 they will offer medical longevity qi gong and three jewels qi gong and on Thursday, Jan. 21, yoga and meditation.
