Did you make a resolution to get your financial affairs in order for 2010? Well, we are so lucky to have the North Laurel-Savage Multi Service Center in our area. They are offering financial counseling each Thursday in January, 7-9 p.m. Give them a call to make an appointment at 410-880-5917.

The center is also offering several other programs. Representatives will meet with WIC clients on Saturdays, Jan. 16 and 30, and a NAMI support group for family and friends of loved ones with mental illness for both English and Spanish speaking individuals is offered each Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

We really can benefit from all the resources they have brought to our area. If you have any questions, feel free to drop in and visit them at the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center at 9105 All Saints Road.

Emmanuel Methodist Preschool is holding an open house on Jan. 26, 9:30 to 11 a.m. They will also be offering a workshop, Transition to Kindergarten, for all parents with children going into kindergarten next fall. The workshop will feature Lisa Davis, Early Childhood Program coordinator for Howard County Public Schools, and will be held Thursday, Feb. 4 at the school, 10755 Scaggsville Road. Are any of you interested in the history of the area? Well, we are so lucky to have two historical societies in our area, Laurel and Savage. The Savage Historical Society will hold an open house on Monday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in room 3 of the F & M Center, 9032 Baltimore St. Everyone is welcome to come and see what they are all about. I know several North Laurel members who find they offer information on all of southeast Howard County, including North Laurel.

Don't forget that Relay for Life of Laurel is holding its 2010 kick off and registration party on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 5-8 p.m. at the Laurel Lakes Greene Turtle Restaurant. Anyone interested can attend. Also that day, Greene Turtle is hosting Relay's Funds for Friends fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the restaurant. The Savage Boys and Girls Club 12U Boys Travel Baseball team will hold its annual spaghetti dinner on Jan. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Savage Fire Hall. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children in advance, or $10 for adults and $7 for children at the door. Contact Stacy at SJSPI@aol.com.

North Laurel's own Tai Sophia is offering several events this month. The school is about to start the second week of its free classes. The free classes introduce upcoming movement, meditation and bodywork sessions that start on Tuesday, Jan. 19 and include classes in Qi Gong and Chakra Energy Balancing. Classes on Wednesday, Jan. 20, are Medical Longevity Qi Gong and Three Jewels Qi Gong and yoga and meditation on Thursday, Jan. 21.
