Air Force Airman 1st Class Matthew Cronin graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio.

Cronin is the son of Joann Cronin, of Ellicott City.

The airman graduated in 2001 from Mount St. Joseph High School, in Baltimore, and earned a bachelor's degree in 2005 from Towson University.

Paul A. Hayes, a weather integration officer, has been promoted to the rank of captain in the Air Force.

He is assigned to the 618th Tanker Airlift Control Center, Scott Air Force Base, in Illinois.

He is the son of Joan F. Hayes, of Gaithersburg. His wife, Ashley, is the daughter of Richard and Wendie Varnell, of Woodbine.

The captain graduated in 2001 from Seneca Valley High School, in Germantown, and received a bachelor's degree in 2005 from St. Louis University, in Missouri.
