The Savage Boys and Girls Club is beginning its recruitment for the fall season. They are offering flag football registration July 31-Aug. 8. The SBGC wants to let parents know that the Savage Football League is a great place for children to learn and improve on a wide range of football skills without the constant concern of injury found in tackle programs.

Flag football is a non-contact sport in which players are "tackled" by the pulling of a flag belt located around the player's waist. Since the SBGC is an in-house sports program without "professional" future expectations, it is also much more low-key, allowing players, coaches and parents to enjoy the season and play for the fun of it.

SBGC offers flag football in the fall for recreational-level players. The SBGC offers three coed age divisions: ages 6-8; ages 9-11 and ages 12-14. All participants must be age appropriate by Sept. 1, 2010.

In addition to the teaching aspect of the flag football program and the flexible schedule, the SBGC will play games on Saturdays this season. The season will run from early-September until late-November with Saturday games played between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Parents are encouraged to take advantage of early bird registration held online Saturday, July 31 to ensure a place on the team for their children. For online registration information, go to the SBGC website at www.eteamz.com/savageboysandgirlsclub.

For those who want to join in on the fun at the First Baptist Church of Savage's vacation Bible school, you still have two nights, tonight and Friday night. In addition to children's classes, there is an adult class this year taught by the Rev. Kenneth Gooch. The VBS program is held in the church from 6:30 to 9 p.m. So, please feel free to join in on this great experience and learn more about God's plan for you!

For those of you who want to cool off during these hot summer nights, the Savage Sno-Cone Shack is open and appears to be the happening place. The "Shack" is open in the evenings and offers cool refreshment and lots of social activity for our community to gather and spend time together.

I want to wish my mom, Alma Croston, a very happy 80th birthday. Alma will celebrate her 80th birthday July 31. Happy birthday, Mom! We love you, Beverly, Donna, Jimmy, Darla, the in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all other family members!

I want to offer happy birthday and happy anniversary wishes to all of my readers who will celebrate during the upcoming week.
