The rock opera, "Jesus Christ Superstar," under the direction of Ken Krintz will open at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 10752 Scaggsville Road, May 14 with a pay-what-you-can preview. Other performances are May 15-17. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger. All shows begin at 8 p.m.
The musical tells the story of the last seven days in the life of Jesus, played by Matt Nance. The story is from the point of view of Judas, played by Jim Gerhardt. The role of Mary is performed by Laura Dennis. Danny Romeo is Pilate, Andy Baldwin is Caiaphas, Willie Foy is Annas, Krintz is Herod, Steven Lutz is Simon Zealotes and Christopher Wilson is Peter. The musical has surrealistic overtones and is set in an inner city.
The musical director is Mariano Vales and Kristin Rigsby, of the Timonium Dinner Theatre, is the choreographer.
Hammond Elementary School will hold its annual spring garage sale May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain date is May 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Anyone with gently used goods, may reserve a space at this event.

Russell Huang, a Reservoir High School student, received the highest honors at the Howard County Mathematics League competition April 9. Brian Schuler received top-scorer honors.
A mural that was completed by National Art Honor Society students is hanging next to the student services office at Reservoir High. National Art Honor Society students are making the table centerpieces for the Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts fundraiser May 19 at Toby's Dinner Theatre, in Baltimore.
