The rain didn't deter this group of 14 boys, ages 11-14, from spending the afternoon of April 3 painting fences and flower baskets on the 55-acre farm. Service projects are an important part of the ConQuest program, a Catholic network of leadership programs and camps which trains boys to be self-disciplined and principled leaders.
"The boys learn a lot about virtue and faith formation throughout the year. Their learning is actualized when they go out into the community and serve others. This was a great opportunity for them to do so," Woodmont Director of Formation Danny Flynn said.
The Therapeutic and Recreational Riding Center, operated by John and Helen Tuel, welcomes more than 200 riders weekly, those with and without disabilities.
"We rely heavily on volunteers to assist with upkeep," John Tuel said. "Having the boys here to help with some spring maintenance was great. We were really impressed by their perseverance as they stayed on task without a word of compliant despite the really bad weather."
