Enjoy "Music Through the Ages" at Laurel Woods Elementary School's 35th anniversary celebration. The Howard County Art Guild will present $690 Scholarships to Nichole Kim of Atholton High School and Michelle Patschke of Reservoir High School at their regular meeting Monday, May 12. Bianca McDonnel of Reservoir High School will receive a $100 gift certificate for art supplies.
The artists will show a sample of their portfolio work and their winning work of art. Both scholarship winners will use the scholarship money to attend a summer class at Maryland Institute College of Art.
Nancy Davis, an accomplished plein air painter will demonstrate some of her oil painting techniques at the meeting. The meeting is held at Howard County Center for the Arts, 8510 High Ridge Road, Ellicott City, and starts at 7:30 p.m. Interested persons may attend.

The Howard County Library will kick off its Summer Reading Celebration with a 2 1/2-mile fun run/walk June 7 at 8 a.m. at the East Columbia Branch Library, 6600 Cradlerock Way, in Columbia.
