Red apples and yellow flowers by Pete Doyle are on display at La Galeria, adjacent to the Ranazul restaurant, 8171 Maple Lawn Blvd. during the month of May. Doyle's striking paintings maintain a strong balance of light, color and proportion. About a third of his acrylics are still lifes of fruits and flowers.
The other paintings are stirring abstractions that bring the viewer into the dynamic colors of the painting. The opening reception is Sunday, May 18 from 3 to 4 p.m.
Doyle studied painting in Greece, Ireland and his home state of Maryland. Art runs in his family, he said.
His uncle, also an artist, started him sketching as a child. His paintings are now in collections in England, Canada, Mexico and the United States. He likes to work on two paintings at a time, one realistic and one abstract.
After leaving the Marines, Doyle opened an employment service in Maryland and two restaurants in Washington, D.C., Port of Piraeus 1 and 2.
