Boys and Girls Club is off to see the Orioles

"Take me out to the ballgame, take me out the fair, buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks ..." well, I am sure you all remember the rest of the song.

If baseball is your forte, then Tom Lawler, president of the Savage Boys and Girls Club, would like to encourage the you to spend an evening at "the Park" with the Club. Lawler does not mean any park, he means Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The date is June 13 when the Orioles battle the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7:05 p.m. in interleague action.

In addition to a baseball game, there will be fireworks following the game, so families can enjoy an evening of baseball and fireworks. If you are interested in tickets through the SBGC, call 301-509-9960 or e-mail Treasurer@savagebgc.org.

Helen Rushing invites community members to attend the Savage Historical Society monthly meeting Monday, May 19 at 7 p.m. in the Faith and Ministry Center, 9032 Baltimore St., Savage (use the side entrance on Foundry Street).

The topic for this month's meeting will be "Following Savage's History in Voting," presented by Donna Thewes. Thewes is a member of the Howard County Board of Elections and is sure to have some interesting facts and information to present. The meeting is open to the public and all community members are encouraged to attend.

In addition, the society has historical calendars from the years 2002-2007 available for purchase. These calendars contain historical information and pictures of our community from years now gone. There are also other historical items available for purchase.

The society is encouraging community members to join their organization and be a part of preserving the history of Savage. For membership renewal or for new membership, Rushing, the SHS secretary, will be at the meeting from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m., accepting applications. For additional information about the society, call her at 301-725-1241.

Just a reminder that the First Baptist Church of Savage will be hosting movie night Saturday, May 17. The movie being shown is "The Ultimate Gift" and will be shown on the church grounds. The movie will begin showing at approximately 7 p.m., so be sure to come early to get a good seat. Snacks will be provided, so all you need to bring are family members and friends.

I want to wish all of my readers, who will celebrate this upcoming week, a very happy birthday. Also, for all of my readers who will celebrate an anniversary this upcoming, I want to wish them a very happy anniversary.
