After a few weeks of intermittent columns, I am hopefully back to writing about the folks in our area more regularly. Life got extremely busy when I took on a long-term substitute job with kindergartners. The kids are so cute, but honestly, I was worn out by the end of the day.
My family also received some devastating news a few weeks back. My brother was diagnosed with lung cancer which has spread. He is only 40 years old and has five children ranging in age from 3 to 12 years old. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. We do believe all things are possible with God and are keeping the faith.
Another fun event taking place at Friendship Church is being offered by the Ladies' Ministry. Bring the special little girl or girls in your life to a Teddy Bear Tea being held at the church Sunday, May 18 at 12:30 p.m. Enjoy a great afternoon with your special girl and her teddy bear (or any other animal).
If you would like more information about this event, please contact the church office at 410-442-5506.
It is hard to believe that the Marriotts Ridge High School Golf Classic is in its fourth year. The Marriotts Ridge High School Boosters is once again sponsoring its annual golf classic which will be held June 25 at Waverly Woods Golf Club, in Marriottsville.
The tournament this year will feature a morning tee off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m., a lunch buffet sponsored by Serafino's and an awards social with a chance to win prizes.
The registration fee is $115 per golfer or $450 for a foursome. The deadline to register is June 11. Because this is a widely attended event, no walk-ups will be allowed.
For more information or to register, e-mail Cindy Scruggs at cscruggs14@aol.com or Carol Grady at uclagrady@comcast.net. Registration forms can also be found on the Marriotts Ridge Boosters Web site at www.mrhs-boosters.com/golf08.html
For the past nine years, the Glenelg High School Jazz Ensemble has been bringing together families, friends and music lovers for its annual Jazz Under the Stars Picnic Dinner and Concert.
This year, the event takes place Sunday, May 18 at Chapel View Farm, in Woodbine. This promises to be a fun evening of great food and outstanding entertainment.
Chapel View Farm provides the perfect setting as guests gather together with their lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy a delicious catered picnic dinner while enjoying the sounds of the Glenelg Jazz Ensemble.
Deanna Bogart will be returning to the event this year to delight the audience with her talents. The picnic starts at 5 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic blankets. All proceeds will benefit the bands of Glenelg High School and its marching unit.
