Led by John Jackowsky, band director at Lime Kiln Middle School, the wind ensemble received a Superior Award for Best Overall Band at a competition in Hershey, Pa. The full orchestra received a Superior Award for Best Overall Orchestra. The concert band and string orchestra received first-place ratings and the eighth-grade chorus placed fourth.
The joint Fulton Elementary and Lime Kiln Middle School Golf Tournament raised more than $9,000. The money will be divided equally between the schools and used towards academic and cultural enrichment programs supported by the PTA. Congratulations to Yvona Ward and Christia Chappell, committee chairs.
Congratulations to Veronica Valentine (counselor) and Russell Wentworth (math teacher) of Reservoir High School who received awards from the Special Education Community Advisory Committee. They were honored for dedication and caring in the education of students with disabilities.

Lime Kiln Middle School sixth-grader Caroline DesJardin-Park was honored at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth Talent Search awards ceremony. Caroline achieved the highest verbal, quantitative and combined scores of any sixth-grader in Maryland. Congratulations, Caroline.
A volleyball tournament to help raise funds to purchase mosquito nets for poverty-stricken families in Africa will be held at the Lime Kiln Middle School Gymnasium June 3, 3:15-5 p.m. The nets will be used in a program to prevent the spread of malaria and other insect-carried diseases.
The Howard County Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting to discuss the current conditions and future of the Upper Little Patuxent River Watershed. The meeting is scheduled for June 3, 7-9 p.m., at the Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road. Concerns regarding local streams, existing conditions of streams and actions that can be taken to improve streams will be discussed.
