I'll remember always, Graduation Day! I recently heard that old Beach Boys song, "Graduation Day", on the 60s station of my car's satellite radio.
The song brought back memories of my own graduation day, which seemed like just a few years ago. Time has flown for me as I am sure that it may seem that way for many of you. I could not wait to graduate and begin a new phase of life, just as many of these young people are most likely thinking today.
For many graduating students, graduation day is one of the happiest, yet in many cases, bittersweet times of their lives. They will reflect on the years gone by, but look forward to the future with anticipation and anxiousness.
Hammond High School will hold its graduation May 30 and then these young graduates will be on their way to their futures -- whatever that may hold. April Lerner, graduation coordinator for Hammond High School, has given graduating seniors information packets concerning graduation requirements. As they begin preparing for graduation, students not only look at the requirements, but they begin to plan their celebrations.
Graduation parties and celebrations are a part of graduating as it is an accomplishment in their lives worth celebration. However, I hope that when celebrating this occasion, students are wise and use good judgment for safety.
As a reminder to all parents when planning graduation celebrations, we, too, need to exercise good judgment. I want to wish all area graduates the very best that life can hold and wish them a safe and happy graduation time!
Congratulations go to the senior students who participated in the "Duel of the Duos" at Hammond High School. Each set of students worked hard to provide the audience with lively entertainment, and they succeeded! Kenyatta Drake and Mandy Snyder were voted Best Duo. Way to go, team!
