If you have the time and some skill, then maybe you'd be interested in helping out as a volunteer face painter for the PTA Spring Fling, Friday, June 6, 6-8 p.m., at Reservoir High School. If you can help, e-mail wayne_smith@hcpss.org
Congratulations to Caroline desJardins-Park, a sixth-grade student at Lime Kiln Middle School. She participated in the Johns Hopkins University's Center for Talented Youth Talent Search this year.
To participate, students must first score at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level standardized test, such as the MSA. Eligible students then take an above-grade-level standardized test (the SCAT for fifth- and sixth-graders and the SAT or ACT for seventh- and eighth-graders). She took first place in quantitative, verbal, and combined categories. Way to go, Caroline!
There's still time to reserve a spot for the big Reservoir High School yard sale June 21, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. One parking space is $15 with each additional space a mere $5 more. To reserve your space, e-mail RHSyardsale@comcast.net. You'll be supporting the RHS Gator football team. Thanks in advance.
Congratulations to Eric Kirksey and Tyler Whitaker of Highland. They are new and proud parents of Logan Whitaker Kirksey. Eric continues to add info and features to the Greater Highland Crossroads Association Web site. Understandably he has been kind of busy of late. Take a look and submit comments and suggestions to www.highlandmd.org.
Speaking of the GHCA, its next meeting is scheduled for June 12 at St. Mark's, in Highland, at 7 p.m. The topic of discussion at this meeting will be more zoning issues. Come prepared for an informative meeting. Membership is still only $50 a year and you must be a member in order to vote. The general public, as always, is always welcome to all of their meetings.
One more week of school! Woo hoo! Oh, uh, sorry. Got a little excited for the kids.
Well, that's all for this week. Look after your neighbors. Remember our troops who are serving in harm's way. And their families. Commit a random act of kindness.
