In the blink of an eye these kids grow up. It seems like just yesterday that young Sean and Evan Larkin were trick-or-treating at our doorway. Now the brothers are headed in all kinds of new directions. Don and Marianne Larkin, of West Friendship, consider their sons to be "our favorite subjects."

Proud they are and they should be. Sean has just completed his second year at the University of Maryland where he is excelling.

Don and Marianne were thrilled to watch his quartet play in the honors recital this spring. Sean, a violin virtuoso will be studying at the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina this summer where he will have the privilege of performing in the orchestra during a concert with the one and only Yo-Yo Ma.

The Larkin's younger son, Evan, graduated from Glenelg High School last week and is preparing for college in the fall at York College of Pennsylvania. Evan will major in behavioral science and anthropology with a minor in history or philosophy.

The quite-proud Larkins are relishing the accolades of their accomplished sons, but also mentally preparing for an empty nest.

Congratulations, Sean and Evan.

"Amazing." That's the way Del. Gail Bates described her visit to a fifth-grade class at St. John's Lane Elementary June 3. When sessions are in recess, Bates of West Friendship, most enjoys getting out in the community to visit her constituents.

The students at St. John's Lane Elementary happened to be conducting a simulated congressional hearing which is an authentic performance based assessment in which students demonstrate their understanding of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The students assumed the role of constitutional experts and presented oral statements before a panel of simulated congressional committee members which included Bates.

Mark your calendar for a special event which is coming to the Glenelg United Methodist Church June 21 at 7 p.m. Glenelg United Methodist is hosting the youth choir from the University United Methodist Church, in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Chapel Hill youth will perform the popular musical "Godspell" for one night only June 21.

The performance is free and a hearty invitation is extended to all in the community to come out and enjoy the beautiful voices of the North Carolina group.

Glenelg United Methodist Church member Whit Trovillion calls the event a "win-win for everyone, but I think we are getting the better deal."

The choir members will visit Glenelg en route from a performance in New York. A host of Glenelg Methodist parishioners are hosting the choir members for an overnight stay before they head back to Chapel Hill.

"We'll be seating people in just a few weeks," said an optimistic Marc Dixon of the almost ready to open Bistro Blanc on Ten Oaks Road. Dixon, an executive chef, who was formerly associated with Iron Bridge on Route 108, is garnering a lot of enthusiasm for his bistro which is currently open as a wine tasting lounge but by July should welcome locals for full dining. Another plus for our region.

The Companions of St. Anthony will celebrate the feast of St. Anthony with two liturgical events Friday, June 13 at noon and at 7:30 p.m. Both celebrations will be held in the Shrine of St. Anthony, on the Franciscan Friars campus, 12290 Folly Quarter Road.
