Waterloo Elementary School had a successful Carnival thanks to carnival chairperson Kim McCauley who organized the event. She loved her own school carnival so much when she was a child she wanted Waterloo students to have the same happy memories. She got lots of help from committee co-chairs Suellen Hubbard and Lori Carr along with committee members Lisa Brown, Maureen Stewart, Rachael Shapiro, Julie Crocamo, Cherie Hromek, Kym Nwosu, Margie Sybert, Margie Calloway, Debi Hochkeppel, Al Hannagan, Annie Allen, Jill Dunagan, Denise Hannagan, Sabra Conley, Suzanne Zaremba, Crystal Donohue, Nancy Huff, Pam Hasson, Tracey Collins, Ann Russo, Lori Kelly, Christina Franco and the Waterloo Elementary School staff who volunteered to work the games, crafts, food stations and sit in the dunk tank.
Kudos also go out to the following volunteers who helped make it a fun day: the Waterloo Elementary parents, the Waterloo cheerleaders and advanced band, Girl Scout Troop 4329, students from Ellicott Mills and Mayfield Woods middle schools, the Long Reach High School ballet, color guard and drama groups, Victory Martial Arts, Kangaroo Kids and the Howard High School jazz band.

I felt like I was kicked in the gut when Debi and Randy Holland told me their son, Adam, was being deployed again to Iraq.
Adam served there in 2006 with the 4th Infantry Division, based in Fort Hood, Texas, as a tank driver. After returning home, Adam extended his stay with the Army and spent several months in Fort Lee, Va., studying to be a water treatment specialist. He is now in Germany awaiting his departure.
My neighbors and I have watched Adam grow from a little boy playing ball to a teenager working at Giant Food in Dorsey Search to a soldier returning from war. Join us in praying for his safety and for all those who proudly serve in harm's way.
