Congratulations go to all the participants of the recent Howard County 4-H Fashion Revue. Thirty-nine 4-H'ers participated in this event, including three boys. Most of the participants made the outfits they modeled. Awards were based on construction of the outfit, accessories, and modeling technique. The theme of the show was "Premier Fashions."

Junior Champion went to Jason Vanisko who made a black lined jacket. The Best Accessorized Junior was Faith Wobbeking. The Junior Top Model award went to Sydney Rossman. Katie Loveless swept the competition with several awards, including; Intermediate Champion and Best Accessorized. She will also represent Howard County at the State Fashion Revue along with Emily Schweich.

The Intermediate Ready-To-Wear Champion award went to Emmy Schafer for her lovely pink chiffon dress. The Intermediate Top Model award went to Becky Connor, who also participated in the entertainment during intermission.

Senior awards went to Samantha Murdock (sports wear and business), Hadassah Link (formal), and Kelly James (separates). Brittany Bowman was Ready-To-Wear Champion and Overall Champion with Murdock as Reserve Champion.

Megan Clark won Ready-To-Wear for business wear. Ashleigh Perry was awarded Best Accessorized. Murdock was awarded Senior Top Model and also received the Outstanding Senior Award in Remembrance of Susan Raver.

I'd like to especially wish Murdock well since this is her final year in 4-H. She has been a tremendous asset to Howard County 4-H with her help at the 4-H Office. She has also taken the reins to organize the County Fashion Revue for several years. She will be sorely missed in this coming 4-H year.

Also, many thanks go to Chris Rein of the 4-H office, who has carried on the tradition of excellence left by Hope Jackson, who recently retired from 4-H service.

I'd like to congratulate Art Brett who was recently inducted into the Mount Airy Historical Society Hall of Fame.

Brett joins 65 members in the Hall of Fame. He was selected for this prestigious honor for his community service. Brett served on the Mount Airy Board of Supervisor of Elections. His volunteer work with the youth of Mount Airy included visiting local schools to speak about his military service and the Constitution.

For 53 years, he was active in the American Legion organizing activities. Brett also placed flags on the graves of veterans on many a Memorial Day. He worked for the government and traveled throughout Europe with his wife, Mary Jane, and three children.

Today, Brett is not in the greatest of health. So if you know him, you might want to drop him a card or a note of congratulations and encouragement.

St. Michael's Catholic Church will be sponsoring an evening with the Frederick Keys July 12 at 6 p.m. when the Keys take on the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. This evening will be beach night and fireworks. Tickets are $8 with the proceeds going to St. Michael's Work Camp.

This will be the 19th year that St. Michael's youth and adult helps will travel to Oakland, in Garrett County, to help build Habitat for Humanity homes.

The first work camp group consisted of 10 teens and a few adults. This year's group will total 81 teens and 23 adults.

Each volunteer Habitat group must contribute to the cost of some building materials, as well as their room and board. For more information, call Jim at 410-960-6763.
