Baking your own anniversary surprise cake? Well, that was not the only surprise in store for Kym and Mitch Young on June 21 as their family surprised them with a 25th wedding anniversary celebration.
Kym and Mitch were the guests of honor at the celebration, planned, and catered by their family. The party was held in the Maryland City Volunteer Fire Department's social hall where approximately 75 family and friends gathered to wish them a happy anniversary.
Kym had been asked to bake a small wedding cake for a friend of her daughter-in-law, Monica. When the door was opened for Kym, as she carried the top layer of the cake into the hall, we were all pretty sure she'd drop it as "surprise" rang throughout the hall.
Not missing a beat, Kym turned right around and exited the hall just as quickly as she had entered. In addition to great food, the guests were invited to play a "Young's Trivia" game, where facts about Kym and Mitch's life were learned. In addition, guests were asked to dress in island attire as the island theme for the celebration had a very special meaning -- as Kym and Mitch were soon to learn. Their children had a very special plan in store for the two of them -- a Hawaiian anniversary vacation. That's just what they got! As a surprise "gift" from their family and friends, Kym and Mitch will be headed to Hawaii to celebrate their 25 years of marriage. Their children -- Adam, Seth, Andy, Emily, Melissa and Monica, Adam's wife -- pulled together "... one of the greatest surprises of our lives," Kym said.
The children give credit to lots of great family and friends. When the "big" Hawaiian vacation gift was opened, Mitch was speechless. Wow, now that was a first! (Mitch admitted it, too).
"We want to thank everyone for all of their prayers, love and support of our family. I especially want to thank God and my kids," said Mitch, acting as spokesperson for both he and Kym.
What a great anniversary celebration for all who attended, especially the guests of honor. Happy anniversary, Kym and Mitch, and we wish you many more years together. Aloha Oe!
I received a notice from Bollman Bridge Elementary School that they will be offering a pre-kindergarten program for the 2008-2009 school year. The program is a half-day pre-kindergarten readiness program with a certified staff and comprehensive curriculum.
Children who will be 4 years old by Sept. 1 are eligible to attend this program, space depending. For additional information, call 410-880-5920.
Happy Fourth of July is wished to everyone. Have a safe, fun and enjoyable celebration. Remember, although our nation may have some bleak moments, we still have a great country and it is wonderful to be living in the land of freedom.
A very special "thank you" goes out to all of our men and women who are serving, or who have served, in the armed forces so that we can celebrate our freedom.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Gwen Waller celebrating July 6; and my Uncle Eston celebrating July 9.
Happy anniversary and birthday wishes go out to my readers who will be celebrating during the upcoming week.
