Matthew E. Cox, son of Dr. and Mrs. Michael Cox, of Ellicott City, graduated from Furman University this spring.

The following students are degree recipients from the University of Scranton: Daniel P. Lavin, of Ellicott City, with a bachelor's degree in management and Aaron K. Landon, of Laurel, with a master's degree in health administration.

Christopher Crowe and Keith Endow, both students at the Savannah College of Art and Design and residents of Ellicott City, have been named to the dean's list for the spring quarter 2008.

Victoria Neilsen, of Ellicott City, received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Frostburg State University.

Jeffrey Abel, of Ellicott City, received a master's degree in secondary education from Lehigh University.

Michelle Smith, of Fulton and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zachary O. Smith, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa. Smith is a graduate of Reservoir High School.

Emma Bullock and Stephen Hyde, both of Ellicott City, have been named to the dean's list at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Kristen Shepherd, of West Friendship, graduated summa cum laude from Wake Forest University on May 19. Shepherd, a 2004 graduate of Centennial High School, has been selected by the U.S. Department of State and the Spanish government to receive a Fulbright Scholarship and will be working and researching in Madrid, Spain for the remainder of 2008 through next year.

Megan McMahon, of Glenelg, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Lynchburg College.

Stephanie Whalen, of Howard County, former student of Glenelg High School and daughter of Steve and Kim Whalen, graduated as a member of the 2008 Valedictory Group of Montpelier (Vt.) High School June 13. Whalen is spending the summer interning for DeWolfe Engineering, in Montpelier. In the fall, she will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Cambridge, Mass.

Vivienne Hurt, of Ellicott City, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. Hurt is a sophomore majoring in biology.
